Whitelines very own shred showdown’s humble beginnings started in Kaunertal, Austria in 2010. Armed with nothing but some shovels and some wheelbarrows, in true UK style a shred garden of wonky rails and sketchy take-offs was the stage for the showdown of ‘shred bingo’. Jonny Russell was the first to fill his boots and became the inaugural winner of the Whitelines Rail Jam Tour.
Since that fateful day in a field in Austria, the Whitelines Rail Tour has gone from strength to strength, showcasing some of the UK’s finest shredding talent of all ages. The 2011 edition was actually held in snowparks!
In 2011, the Rail Jam actually went on a tour, mainly to fulfill the ‘tour’ part of the name. The two-stop tour starting at Hemel Hempstead and Castleford gave the opportunity to the austerity measure shredders that couldn’t make it out to Austria. Cas and Hemel both put the Keystone shapers to shame, sculpting ride-able pieces of art for our young Picasso’s.
In 2012 under the new guise of the Whitelines Movember Knockout, the competition travelled to the farthest flung corners of the country (Tamworth, Castleford, Hemel Hempstead and Milton Keynes), with a custom built down-flat-down bar that stood at a terrifying 1.5m high. The rail certainly split the steel legged from the yellow bellied and the tour was a resounding success with Alex Tank popping along to the Hemel Hempstead leg.
In 2015, the assembled crowd will elect the winner – who will rule the rails?
