‘Taking Chances’ – Nicolas Müller talks to his manager Circe Wallace

This is one of those random videos that pop up in our inbox from time to time. The ‘Avant/Garde Diaries’ are, according to the press release, “a digital interview magazine by Mercedes Benz that launched in July 2011.” God knows why Mercedes are getting involved in snowboarding and making arty videos (I’m guessing their was a smooth-talking, wide-spectacled designer from Munich involved) but this is actually pretty interesting. If BA were once the world’s favourite airline (you know, before all the strikes) then Nicolas Müller is the world’s favourite snowboarder. He holds this title because he does exactly what he wants, on his own terms, and this free-spirited personality shines through in his riding. Circe Wallace may be less familiar to many of you. A 90’s pro (with her own boot on Vans) these days Circe is one of the most powerful behind-the-scenes figures in snowboarding, managing some of the world’s top pros and helping to put on events like the recent Red Bull Supernatural. Hearing her chat with Nico about the business side of the game is a bit of a rare treat, and it’s certainly eye-opening to hear him refer to his agent as his “guardian angel”. Quite how this arty-farty conversation over a game of table-tennis will help sell luxury cars is anyone’s guess though…
