Burton’s team photographer on his perfect day

Ever wondered what goes into getting the shots that fill Whitelines? Well hopefully this clip from Burton’s new website theliftline.tv will go some way to providing an answer. We’d love to say the photo contributors just stand around snapping shots of their mates riding rad stuff, but it’s not quite that simple. Most of the shots you’ll see in the mag are the result of hours of standing around in the snow setting up flashes, working different angles, getting the riders to try different tricks and generally putting in a lot of effort to get the perfect photo. In fact, many days of your average pro-rider’s season will be spent chasing photo opportunities – riding to a particular spot and hiking it again and again until the snapper’s happy. Not that they can ever really complain (I mean c’mon, that’s not a bad job!) but generally there is a whole load of hard work that goes into getting shots. Sometimes though, things just seem to fall into place and great photos will be conjured up out of nothing, with a minimum of effort. Here, Burton’s European staff photographer (and general all-around nice dude) Cyril Mueller describes one of those days when he magically managed to create several silk purses out of a day that looked like a proper sow’s ear. Incidentally, it was later this same week that Cyril shot Stefan Maurer and Gary Greenshields in the session which produced Gary’s cover shot on the latest issue of Whitelines. A productive week all round then!
