Brain Farm Test The First Ever Ultra HD Drone Camera

After bringing their high-quality production skills to That’s It That’s All and The Art Of Flight (not to mention their new skate project, We Are Blood), Brain Farm Cinema continue to push the limits of what’s possible in the world of action sports filming.

Now they’ve taken a Phantom Flex4K camera (capable of shooting 1000 frames per second at 4K resolution) and stuck it on a drone. Easier said than done; the resulting creation is a hefty 30lbs in weight (almost 14kg), and when you consider that consumer drones like the Hexo+ weigh less than 1kg, that’s a lot of kit to keep steady in the air. Plus, crashing it would result in an eye-watering $250,000 worth of damage.

Fortunately for all concerned, testing went nice and smoothly. Looks like the five years of planning has paid off – it’s just a shame they had to blow it at the end with the classic fist-bump-to-high-five cock-up…

We doubt this rig will find its way up a mountain for Travis Rice’s next movie, although we wouldn’t put it past the guys to make it work. In any case, it’s good to see the Farmers are still striving for filming perfection.
