Summer Snowboarding With Onyx

Now that you’ve seen Aimee Fuller’s piece on summer shredding, we wouldn’t blame you for wanting a bit of that for yourself. You could go the sketchy, illegal bike route like she did, but there are other ways… Ones that not only minimize the hassle, but that make you a better snowboarder. Yes, summer camps aren’t just for the kids of negligent American parents anymore…

So where to go? One place that’s always worth looking at is Les Deux Alpes, France’s freestyle Mecca that boasts a first-rate park atop what is arguably Europe’s best glacier. Sun-worshippers won’t be disappointed either; the resort frequently gets the kind of rays you’d get at any generic beach spot, and is infinitely more fun. Yes, the lifts close a little earlier in summer, but that means there’s all the more time for LDA’s various afternoon activities. Hit the trampolines to work on those inverts, or head for to the mountain bike trails for which the resort is also famous. Or you can opt to chill out, hit the hot tub and just enjoy the long summer evenings.

Onyx Snowboarding have been based there for seven years, and pride themselves on their summer program. In 2015 they’ll be running four different session weeks: the first and second span from 4th-18th July, and offer all-inclusive weeks with six days of coaching, six-day lift pass, and catered chalet accommodation. For no-hassle shredding, this is the best option, and the guys have laid on plenty of evening activities to make for a banging trip.

Week 3 (18th-25th July) is a coaching-only option, so you can sort out your own accommodation in order to keep the costs down. Then the following week is Onyx’s first ever kids-only session, where groms aged 8-15 can shred all day with the coaches and really take their riding to the next level. Plus there’s all the evening extras too, so they’re bound to come back stoked. Prices start from £395 per week, so head to the website to book your spot.
