“The down is worth the up" say splitboarders - but there’s nothing wrong with trying to make the up a little easier… That’s where the Salomon Premiere splitboard comes in. While most boards of its kind divide into two pieces, there’s four at work here.
"That means less weight under your feet, as well as the ability to glide along in narrower tracks left by ski tourers"
You can stash the central two pieces in a pack, and use the outer ones as your touring skis. That means less weight under your feet, as well as the ability to glide along in narrower tracks left by ski tourers. In short, less effort is required for the way up.
The Salomon Premiere is still compatible with the vast majority of splitboard bindings, and is easy to set up once you reach the summit. Then when you’ve got going, the Premiere is well equipped to handle any terrain. It’s got a medium stiffness and a hybrid camber profile, and the tapered directional shape is perfect for charging down uncharted faces. If you’re properly prepared the sintered base, you’ll be able to absolutely redline it.
So it’s more than just a clever touring system. Whether you’re on the way up or heading back down, you’ll be glad you’ve got a Salomon Premiere under your feet.
“This board is designed for the purist, the classic randonneur who might find the climb more important than the descent, wanting to shave a few minutes off their Strava times.
"The narrow skis are more efficient, have less drag and are easier to hold an edge on a steep angled, hardpack traverse"
The narrow skis are more efficient, have less drag and are easier to hold an edge on a steep angled, hardpack traverse. It sounds great, but their are more components to faff with during changeover, more things to break and it does affect the torsional properties of the board when riding.
That said, the lovely progressive powder shape and rocker nose make it extremely fun in deep snow. If you want to be different, stand out from the rest and get an advantage when skinning, then this board will suit you."
