Introduced last year, the Burton Talent Scout is a twin freestyle stick with just enough stiffness to handle aggressive riding whilst keeping mini-shred very much on the table.
The profile is essentially that of a classic camber board, but with flat sections placed just outside the bindings. This means that you’ll still get the natural snap of the traditional bend, but there’s less chance of catching an edge or hanging up on a rail.
As well as mellowing out the contact points, those flat sections make pressing the Talent Scout on ledges, boxes or just the piste an easy and fun thing to do – and they’ll make floating in powder a little easier too.
The core has an asymmetric element to it, with the thinner sections of Burton’s ‘Squeezebox’ design angled towards the nose and tail, rather than placed across the board in line with the waist. Plus the bite point of the edges – with a slight overhang for extra bite – are different on the heel and toe edge, making it more attuned to the differences between the two turns.
It’s received the thumbs-up from several female freestylers we spoke to at last year’s tests, and there’s only one way to see what all the fuss is about.
“This is my usual weapon of choice; I absolutely love it.
While you don’t really notice the asymmetric element that much, it definitely holds a really strong edge on both sides, making it perfect for charging the piste.
It shouldn’t be anyone’s first choice for riding powder, but it’s flexible, fun, really responsive and awesome for everything in the park. If that sounds like the kind of thing you’re after, then this is the one."
