Halldor Helgason appears to be on a mission to become snowboarding’s #1 entrepreneur. Having already backed Lobster Snowboards, Switchback bindings, 7/9/13 belts and Hoppipolla headwear (sadly no more), he’s now branching into outerwear. If you’re worried that the pieces will be as ‘out there’ as the designs seen on his Lobster boards, don’t be; Atrip apparel is all about clean styles, something that nobody does better than Northern Europeans.

Halldor’s started off simple, only releasing one model of snowboard pants: the Atrip Hengill. Available in four colours – black, grey, yellow and green – this is a simple yet effective option for on- and off-hill shenanigans, at a price you’ve got to love.

You won’t find any Gore-Tex wizardry here, but with 10,000ml waterproofing and 10,000g breathability they’re still more than fit for purpose. Even riders with the tightest of budgets should avoid anything with lower specs than that – you might as well wear a pair of jeans. They’ve also been finished with C6 durable water repellant coating, which is more environmentally-friendly than the C8 alternative.

There’s no built-in insulation, but combined with a good pair of thermals they’ll be fine even in the coldest of climates - and when springtime comes, just unzip the mesh-lined vents for a refreshing ride. With a full taffeta lining and fleece pockets, they’re comfy as you like too.

Feature-wise, the Atrip Hengill pants boast all the classic bells and whistles that every good pair should have: hard-wearing cuffs with zips for size adjustment, elasticated gaiters, boot hooks and fleece pockets. Plus the style is pretty sweet too.

Trade Secrets

Halldor Helgason - Founder, Atrip

The Hengill pants have a medium fit, but are a bit tighter around the knees so it doesn’t look like you’re wearing two Lego bricks on your legs. The main pockets have zippers, as do the cuffs, and they also come with a belt lace (unfortunately not 7/9/13, but we are working on that).

The waterproofness and breathability is 10K/10K, and I wear them in size medium.
