- Frame/Lens: Torstein Horgmo Signature ShredBot Iron / Prizm Black Iridium
If the name didn’t already give it away, the shape of the lens surely does; the Oakley Flight Deck snowboard goggle has been built to resemble the kind of thing you’d find on the heads of Maverick and Goose. Since no-one should even think about buying one of those helmets with an actual flip-down visor (shudder), this stylish number is a far better option.
Instead of trying - and failing - to make tucking your bandana/neckwarmer underneath the bottom of your frame work, consider the Anon M3 snowboard goggle.
"A large, frameless, spherical-lens model like this one gives you an uncompromised field of view"
The Oakley Flight Deck is a big’ un, so those who prefer an oversized look will love these. It’s not all about aesthetics though; a large, frameless, spherical-lens model like this one gives you an uncompromised field of view. With a Prizm lens in place, you’re looking at arguably the best peripheral vision of any model, anywhere.
The lens itself is held in place by contact points all around the edge, and changing it up for another tint is pretty straightforward. Starting at the top, you just work your way round popping out the connections. Reverse the process to get the new lens in - it’s quick, easy and idiot-proof.
The colourway of Oakley Flight Deck seen here is the choice of longtime O-man and head ShredBot supreme, Torstein Horgmo, and it’s one of fourteen designs from which you can choose.
“When it came to sheer size and peripheral vision, nothing came close during testing to the Flight Decks - they’re enormous! Luckily they do this with minimal distortion, and coupled with Oakley’s Prizm lens they’re both tack-sharp and give really great on-snow contrast, especially in bright, sunny conditions.
"So they’re nice on your face and have great optics… What else? Oh yeah, they’re stylish AF"
The face foam is super comfy and there were no problems with adjusting the strap or it coming loose at any point during the half-day I had these on.
