In the old days, seeing a rider turn their hand to every aspect of snowboarding was the norm. Now, however, there are so many specialists in each discipline that only a handful can claim to be legitimately world-class in everything from deep pow to heart-in-mouth street spots.

Among their ranks stands Pat Moore, making him just the person to help craft Vans’ most comprehensive snowboard boot. The Vans Infuse has all the customisation you could ask for, making it the only boot a rider like Pat will ever need.

Different closure systems have been deployed at different areas of the boot to ensure your fit will be just right. Most notably, there is a Boa coiler on the side, the wire for which runs through a plate that sits over the instep area. By tightening the coil, you increase the tightness over the top of your foot, and simultaneously minimise the chances of heel lift. As it’s Boa, you can get incredibly precise with the settings.

On the outer boot, a classic lace is married to a powerstrap, giving you plenty of options there too. More aggressive riders will want to go for a tight, supportive feel, but on mellower days you can dial things back with ease. On top of this, each tongue has two removable hard plastic strips - take them both out to soften up the front of the boot, or you can choose to leave one in on each side for targeted support.

Even the liner has options for customisation; the X-shaped material above the ankle can be tweaked or removed to your liking, and the entire thing is heat-mouldable too. It’s a strong choice comfort-wise too, with a heat-reflecting footbed, moisture wicking properties and all-weather ventilation.

Looks-wise, the combination of earth colours and electric orange has rolled over from last year, albeit with some added flourishes courtesy of Mr. Moore; for example, ‘LIVE FREE OR DIE’ - the motto of Pat’s home state of New Hampshire - adorns the liner.

In many ways, that sums up the Vans Infuse, too. This boot will allow you to go anywhere and do anything, changing things up whenever the mood strikes. Why compromise?
