Despite a few nasty injuries of late – an unfortunate collarbone snap at the last Olympics, followed by a broken back – Torstein Horgmo remains one of snowboarding’s biggest names. Norway’s premier Shredbot has teamed up with longtime sponsor DC to create a brand new boot for this winter.

The DC Torstein is unequivocally a high-end boot. As well as being super stiff, it’s tricked out with all of DC’s top tech to ensure that even the heaviest-hitting Scandi freestyle machine will be satisfied with its performance. For starters, it’s one of only two boots in DC’s 2016/27 range to feature the new ‘Double Black’ liner. The EVA foam is roughly a third more dense than average, providing extra support for when you’re hooning it. The backstay has been strengthened, it’s completely heat-mouldable, and there’s a powerstrap across the top to ensure you’re always secure and supported. In short, it’s a beast.

Torstein’s gone for the double-Boa closure system, which is proving more popular than ever. With two dials you can get incredibly precise fit in both the upper and lower zones of the boot, and it’s easily adjustable at all times. The wire automatically retracts into the coiler, making for a lightning-fast entry. The outer shell that they tighten is extremely durable, especially where it meets the heelcup of your binding, so expect these to last and last.

The sole is equally hard-wearing, with a mixture of rubber and Unilite targeted where it’s most needed. At the same time, they’ve ensured that the cushioning is effective throughout. Like all DC boots, the tread is built to make skating on the flat easier - a small detail, but a good one nonetheless.

This is another boot that’s designed to be thrashed; if you’re looking for a pair of boots to go with your cruiser board, this isn’t it. However, if you’re after something that’s built for the big stuff, both in the park and out the back, then the DC Torstein could be the one to get.
