Thanks to that highback, the Salomon Nova may be the weirdest-looking binding on the market in 2017/18. What matters is how it performs, of course, and on that basis the Nova passes with flying colours.
It features ‘Blaster’ joints, which sit between the footbed and the heelcup. These act as a suspension system, dealing with the worst impacts and vibrations that you’ll experience on the hill. It comes in varying densities, and the version on the Salomon Nova is slightly softer to further soak up the chatter.
"With the Blaster tech your feet should be kept happy from first lifts to last"
As for that highback, it’s got a medium flex that makes it a solid choice for all-round riding. If you like to ride with forward lean, adjustment is easy and precise.
The footbed has more shock-absorbing qualities, so with that and the Blaster tech your feet should be kept happy from first lifts to last. The toe strap is simple, low-profile and lightweight, whilst the ankle strap is plush yet responsive, with an asymmetrical design that offers more support on the outside of the foot.
The Salomon Nova is targeted at freestyle fans, so those looking to charge down steep backcountry faces may wish to look elsewhere. However, if it suits your riding style then you can’t go far wrong with this.
"I tried the Novas against the Salomon Mirage and I felt like I got a little more out of these, especially as I was going for a slightly stiffer board.
They are supportive, have comfy straps, and are responsive but not twitchy. With the soft highback material, you can still get some tweaky tweaks out of them. No foot ache or unwanted pressure either.

Tool-less adjustment is a bonus whilst out on the hill. Just make sure to check the size guide; I presumed I was a Medium due to all my old bindings (which were a different brand) but found that they were slightly too big… Silly me.
Still, these are the perfect binding for the Salomon Rumble Fish, and they look boss!"
