Denim style snowboard pants (and fully impractical, water absorbing jeans) continue to prove popular right across the snowboarding spectrum - and of course companies carry on providing as many variations on the theme as there are cuts of the original workwear classic.

So with that in mind, we've hunted high and low to find a selection of picks from this season's outerwear, which (in our humble opinion) cover all the bases in terms of denim mountain trousers. Pick skinny or baggy, men's or women's, traditional indigo or acid wash - and get started on your search for the perfect pair...

686 Deconstructed Denim Pant 2016 2017

These 10k/10k pants are backed by 40g polyfil insulation boosting their warmth giving properties up a notch, and a reinforced hem will help stop heel drag leading to actual wear and tear.

  • Denim Colourways: Indigo
  • Price: £200

Women’s Black Magic Overall 2016 2017

Bibs pants can tend to have a looser fit, but if you're looking for something a little bit more tailored, the Women's Black Magic Overall is an obvious option.

Boasting bonus detailing in the lining, they come in black denim with plenty of pockets, 10k/10k weather protection and extra 40g insulation in the seat and knees. There's also a little bit of stretch in the fabric so your movement's not limited...

Analog Remer Slouch | Slim Denim Pant 2016 2017

Available in both 'Slouch' and 'Slim' fit, Analogue's Remer pants are a black denim shell option that look like they've been picked straight off the shelf at a jean outlet.

Whatever fit you go for, you get articulated knees, fully taped seams to stop drips and 10k/5k fabric, with a stripped back, authentic streetwear look.

  • Denim Colourways: Black Denim
  • Price: £150

Burton Women’s Chance Denim Pant 2016 2017

Burton's Chance Pants are a slightly more relaxed looking pair with zip thigh pocket detailing and 10k/10k shell fabric that makes them adaptable to all sorts of conditions. Fitted with anti-scuff cuffs and offering a one year warranty so you know they'll see out the season.

To top it off, all colourways of the Chance are Bluesign approved, so you know the planet's being taken into consideration as well...

Burton Southside Denim Pant | Covert Denim Pant 2016 2017

Two more bluesign approved options here - and if you're counting different bagginess/insulation options you can go ahead and up that to four.

First up the Southside shell pants with both mid fit and slim fit options - the slightly more tech option of the two with 10k/10k fabric - adorned with large pockets on the thigh, and test-i-cool mesh vents, but still with the look of a dark denim set of jeans.

Then on the right, the Covert Pant, with options for a 40g insulated version if you're after extra warmth. These come in with 10k/5k fabric and a looser classic fit, but still feature fully taped seams and share many features with the Southside - which one you pick is up to you...

CLWR Women's Lynx Denim Pant 2016 2017

High end half-bib pants for the ladies - the Lynx is a full on 15k/20k 3L stretch fabric shell that won't be left wanting no matter how deep the snow gets (as long as you remember to pack a jacket too).

Articulated knees help with movement, while classic CLWR detailing and a lighter denim wash help these stand out, and as a shell you can easily layer these up for those cold expeditions.

  • Denim Colourways: Denim Blue
  • Price: £150 | £120/£135 (Insulated)

Holden Women’s Skinny Denim Pant | Men’s Skinny Denim Pant 2016 2017

Holden Outerwear are ace at making street inspired items, so it's no surprise that they've got a tasty selection of denim pants for guys and girls alike.

What might be news to you however is how tech these on-point pants are - both boasting 20k/20k fabric, fully taped seams and eco friendly PFAO free DWR finishing, with solvent free lamination! Nailing it...

L1 Women's The One Denim Pant | Men's The One Denim Pant 2016 2017

Still the only pant that properly crosses over into an everyday winter pair of jeans - The One Pant is back with a women's version joining the party this winter.

Available in brown and blue colourways whichever fit you pick, these 10k/10k waterproof/breathable pants may not have all the bells and whistles of regular snowboard pants, but if you want actual jeans that you can wear to ride in, they're as good as it gets.

L1 Women's Scarlett Denim Pant | Women's Loretta Denim Overall | Men's Skinny Denim Pants 2016 2017

A trio of more regular denim pants from L1 now, with men's and women's pants, as well as the women's Loretta Overall on show.

All three feature 10k/10k fabric for good all round protection - while the Scarlett is bolstered by 40g insulation, the Loretta has a slim fit and the added benefits of overall protection, and the Skinny Denim pants serve as a stretch denim men's option with fabric that'll fade like normal jeans do.

Technine Nines Denim Pant 2016 2017

Technine have got four very different colourways for their denim pant this year ranging from Red Raw to Vintage Blue, and each coming with contrasting patterned pocket patches.

Tech wise they're all 10k/10k with venting, snap close pant cuffs and an adjustable waistband. Relaxed fit as you might expect

  • Denim Colourways: Red Raw/Black | Black Raw/Black Flannel | Indigo Raw/Red Flannel (Pictured) | Vintage Blue/Tie Dye
  • Price: €152

Westbeach Women's Dover Denim Pant 2016 2017

Straight leg fitting, 10k/10k fabric and fully sealed seams, all in at a great price point - the Westbeach Dover pant is a no-nonsense classy deal for ladies who don't want to go too baggy or too tailored.

Articulated knees and a reinforced hem help add to the mixer, just beware the lack of venting if you run hot or want to wear these in spring.

686 Authentic Raw Insulated Denim Snowboard Pants 2015 2016

686's Authentic Raw snowboard pants come in both insulated and uninsulated options depending on your need for warmth, and with a slim/straight fit they'll happily work with riders who don't link to slink too near to the skinny and baggy ends of the spectrum.

10k waterproof and 8k breathable, with fully taped seams, mesh lined vents, and a snap-shut ankle slit, they've got the goods in terms of features, with the 40g insulated providing light relief for those that run cold. And unlike some of the more traditional pairs in our picking, you can get the 5 pocket denim design in 'Duck Twill' yellow and 'Gunmetal' colour ways as well as indigo.

  • Denim Colourways: Indigo Twill Denim (pictured), Duck Twill Denim, Gunmetal Twill Denim
  • Price: £160 (insulated)

Analog Remer Denim Snowboard Pants 2015 2016

Very little outwardly betrays the Analog Remer snowboard pants as a technical item of clothing - but that's not to say that they don't have the technical chops to get you through the season.

The denim pair comes with a slight stretch to the fabric, which is 10k/5k waterproof, and has a slim fit that widens very slightly past the knee to fit over your boots. Incase that doesn't give you enough freedom of movement, however, they've also given the Remer an articulated knee to let you bend. Strictly for lovers of black denim here, unless you fancy going for one of their oxford twill colourways.

  • Denim Colourways: Raw Black Denim (pictured)
  • Price: £150

Burton Covert Denim Snowboard Pants 2015 2016

For those after a relaxed fit (and relatively relaxed price point) the Burton Covert Pants are one of the baggier denim designs on offer. Again they come in both insulated (40g) and shell options, and feature the same 10k/5k premium waterproofing as the Analog Remer above.

Other than the shape of the cut, you'll notice that the Covert feature bigger pockets that make them look more like a snowboarding pant than an actual pair of jeans - and features like the full knee to knee venting zip, fully tapered seams, reinforced heel cuffs with draws to keep them out of the dirt and more help establish these as a proper technical pair.

  • Denim Colourways: Denim (pictured)
  • Price: £135 (Insulated)

Burton Lucky Women's Denim Snowboards Pants 2015 2016

Cut from the same denim fabric as their Burton Covert brothers, the Burton Lucky women's snowboard pant features a regular women's bootcut shape, and once more they've gone for the traditional features and look of snowboard pants, albeit with a denim twist.

Unlike the Covert, however, you'll have to look elsewhere if you're after an insulated option, the taffetta lined Lucky pants are made to function as a shell so you can pick and add your own layers underneath if you choose.

Double cargo pockets give plenty of space for storage on these, and thigh vents let additional air escape on the 10k/5k design - while those reinforced cuffs provide resistance to tearing when you step off snow onto rougher terrain.

  • Price: £155

Colour Wear Cork Women's Denim Snowboard Pants - 2015 2016

Go even more modern with your denim colourway and you end up in the realm of the Colour Wear Cork snowboard pants.

Long famed for contrasting colours and block designs - the company have given the Cork a bright white patch and zippers that are subtle enough to keep them looking classic, while taking them away from the jean look.

Slim without being figure hugging, this pair is lined with 250T polyester lining for comfort, and has 10k/10k weatherproofing - not to mention taped seams, venting on the inner thigh, and articulated knees to let you move freely.

  • Denim Colourways: Denim Blue (pictured)
  • Price: £125

DaKine Miner Denim Snowboard Pants - 2015 2016

Another brand doing both male and female denim threads are DaKine - and we'll be kicking off with the men's Miner denim pants.

Featuring a fairly straight cut, they're not short on tech with 10k/10k fabric and a DWR finish - and all the essentials in terms of fully taped seams, inner leg vents, boot gaiters and more.

The double layer denim fabric is backed by taffeta and brushed tricot lining, and we thanks to the classic look we reckon you could get away with pairing these with just about anything.

  • Denim Colourways: Denim (pictured)
  • Price: €170

DaKine Westside Denim Snowboard Pants - 2015 2016

For ladies seeking the female equivalent of the Miner, the choice is made pretty easy by the presence of the DaKine Westside pants. Cut from the same denim and featuring the same high-quality tech features, their shell design gives you the freedom to layer up and stay comfy all season long.

Other than the female specific cut, you're essentially looking at the same fundamental design here, but that's not necessarily a bad thing as both men and women need high quality snow pants to get them through their days on the hill.

  • Denim Colourways: Denim (pictured)
  • Price: €160

DC Cannon Women's Denim Snowboard Bib 2015 2016

Bibs are all the rage at the moment, and while they may be more regularly seen in earthy colours these days, DC's Cannon bib pants have got the goods for women who want to sport them in a denim fabric too.

Trimmed with colourful zip highlights, they've got 40g insulation and Exotek 15k fabric for those who run cold, and with heaps of pockets for storage, they stick true to the additional benefits of a bib style layer.

  • Denim Colourways: Blue Indigo (pictured)
  • Price: £150

DC Relay Denim Snowboard Pants - 2015 2016

DC's Relay snowboard pants in 'Anthracite' may not strictly be marked in as a denim option - but if you see threads that look more like jeans on your travels be sure to let us know. What's more they're looking like one of the most tech pairs we've got, with DC's Exotex 15k waterproof material and fully taped seams protecting you against the elements.

If you're looking for a ladies equivalent, keep scrolling on to the DC Viva (below), but for men looking for a denim fade, regular fit, and plenty of features, the DC Relay are well worth a look.

  • Price: £135

DC Viva Women's Denim Snowboard Pants - 2015 2016

As promised, DC don't leave the ladies hanging, with the 'Caviar' colourway of their Viva pants looking pretty damn denim inspired to us. They're also built on Exotex 15k waterproof fabric, but come in a tailored boot cut fit instead of the straight leg.

Still on the side of a shell, they have taffeta lining, with a bit of additional warming brushed mesh in the knees and seat where things can spend more time in contact with snow.

You get an additional zip-up thigh pocket on the Viva, as well as the zipped hand and back pockets, so there is storage despite the fitted design - and articulated knees will give you the room to move that you need.

  • Price: £135

L1 Heartbreaker Premium Women's Denim Snowboard Pants - 2015 2016

L1 are always primed and ready when it comes to streetwear inspired snow clothing - so it'll come as no surprise to most that they've got good options for denim outerwear.

Starting off with the L1 Heartbreaker Premium, a skinny fitting ladies pant with three options for denim fabric. You're probably going to want to try these on in person, as they are pitched as a shell pant (you might need room to layer a bit) - but with 10k/10k fabric they'll do their bit to keep the weather away. And thanks to their stretch denim design you should find the right fit comfortable too.

  • Denim Colourways: Acid Wash/Black Wax Denim (pictured)/Black Fade Denim
  • Price: £179

L1 One Pant Denim Snowboard Pants - 2015 2016

If you're in the market for winter jeans with the capability to crossover onto snow - the L1 One Pant sits right in the crosshairs.

Pushed as a sort of hybrid, they're not designed to fit over snowboard boots, but if you give them a bit of a roll up, they will handle time on snow too. The fabric is 10k/10k with fully taped seams, but as you might imagine the One Pant is missing a few of the bells and whistles you'll find on more technical wear.

Nevertheless if you live and breathe life on snow, and want one pair of jeans that you won't have to change to hit your favourite spot in a hurry - these are built for you.

  • Denim Colourways: Raw Blue Denim (pictured)/Brown Overdye Denim
  • Price: £179

L1 Skinny Denim Snowboard Pant - 2015 2016

Go one step further away from actual jeans, and you find yourself in the territory of the L1 Skinny Denim snowboard pants. These will fit over your boots, and come in three denim variations (see below).

Built to stretch and delivered with a waxed lace belt, they're still pretty street inspired, but do come with 10k/10k fabric, critically taped seams, and a zippered pocket and hem at the ankle.

Layer them up well and they should see you through the season - and as the inspiration for the One Pant, you can bet they'll look good when you step into the bar too.

  • Denim Colourways: Black Wash Denim/Brown Overdye Denim (pictured)/Black Wax Denim
  • Price: £179

Roxy Wood Run Women's Denim Snowboard Pants - 2015-2016

You're probably getting the gist of things by now, so maybe the classic Roxy Wood Run won't have swept you off your feet on first sight, but the fact is it's still a solid option - and taste being as varied as it is, we saw no good reason not to include it.

Packing Roxy's 10k/10k Dryflight technology, and a tailored fit, this is another 40g insulated pair of jean pants that'll see you through all but the harshest weather - and thanks to a hem lifting system and brushed tricot knees and seat, there's extra comfort and practicality too.

  • Denim Colourways: Graystone (pictured)
  • Price: £135

Technine Nines Denim Snowboard Pants - 2015 2016

Mixing things up again style-wise - and it's time for a trip to Technine's formidable outerwear range, where they've got the Nines denim pant in both indigo and black colourways with contrasting pocket patches, undoubtedly set to be popular with T9 loyalists.

These come in with 10k/10k fabric, critically taped seams, and an included adjustable belt - with zip-up leg vents and snap-tight cuffs at the ankle in a baggier cut that is unmistakably Technine. If you want similar, but with bib styling added, be sure to check their Heritage Bib Pant too.

  • Denim Colourways: Raw Black/Raw Indigo (pictured)
  • Price: $170

Templeton El Carlos Denim Snowboard Pants - 2015 2016

Templeton's El Carlos range may not be the most tech snowboard pants going, but they sure do make 'em with a whole heap of different washes, and the price isn't bad either! Check the website (below) for the full range, which includes all sorts of acid wash, fades and more.

The slim fit frame of these is very much based on the silhouette of actual jeans, with 5 pockets cleverly hiding their zip closures and subtle venting - but they do feature 5k/5k waterproofing so you won't find yourself wanting on casual shred days. They should fit comfortably over your boots too, and have leg gussets to stop you getting snowy from the feet up.
