Previously the mere sight of his name on the start list seemed to have fellow pipe contenders crapping themselves, PR people reaching for new superlatives and judges scrabbling to justify ridiculously high scores. But while he is still the man to beat, the weekend’s action proved that Shaun is by no means indestructible.

OK so he fell on his first run, and his second was maybe not quite up to the stupidly high standards we’ve come to expect, but it’s the fact that he landed a good run and was still beaten that’s really unusual. Is the rest of the halfpipe world beginning to catch up with him at last?
