K2 was actually the first snowboard boot company to use the Boa lacing system, a full twelve years ago. There are no plans to give it up any time soon, and you’ll see it once again on the K2 Sapera in 2014/15 – as well as the vast majority of their female range.
Meanwhile the inner boot is kept secure with a speed-lace that controls a new urethane plate over the ankle, which evenly distributes the pressure in the area most commonly prone to pinching. It’ll give you all the support you could typically want, but it’s by no means an ultra-stiff charger – instead file under ‘all-rounder’ that can rise to the challenge of powerful riding but is more at home with piste-cruising and freestyle. A variant of K2’s ‘Harshmellow’ technology can be found in the Phylon sole, which dampens vibration and reduces chatter on uneven terrain. If comfort’s what you value most, the Sapera delivers.
