Drake Reload Binding 2014-2015 Review

The Details:

An all-rounder this ain’t: Drake has made many a binding in its long history, but no other that has been designed with as much of a freestyle focus as the Reload. It’s definitely one to consider if the park’s your place.

The key word with these is ‘light’ – all of Drake’s lightest variants, from baseplate to straps (and even the ratchet buckles, made with magnesium instead of aluminium to chop a quarter off their weight) are present and correct here. They’ve taken as much bulk out of the highback as possible without compromising strength, and have added the ‘Hyperlight’ ankle strap into the 2014/5 version. Stepping off the scale for a second, there’s the Natural Cant footbeds that are better shaped to the classic duck-foot angles favoured by freestylers, with additional cushioning under the heels where it’s needed most. The blue-and-orange combo seen here is by far the funkiest colourway, but classic black, grey and red versions are available too.
