If you’ve only heard of a couple of snowboard boots, there’s a fair chance the Burton Ion is one of them. For years it’s been at the high end of Burton’s range, and a popular choice for riders who like their boots mega stiff and responsive.
All of the B’s top tech is present here including a stitchless lining that won’t pack out, and their new GripLITE backstay (that’s the rubber section running up the back of the boot, designed to hug the highback and for increased response). You’re also about as likely to get cold toes in a pair of these as you are of landing a quad cork, with ‘Sleeping Bag’ tech underfoot and DryRide wicking in the liner. Big-footed riders might be interested in the fact that the footprint left by this boot is a full size smaller than average, without hammering your toes in the process. The sole is ultra-low profile too, increasing board feel but maintaining cushioning. Snowboard boots don’t get much more serious than this.
