Bataleon Camel Toe 2014-2015 Snowboard Review

The Details:

Bataleon is no one-trick pony, but it’ll always be best known for bringing Triple Base Technology to the snowboard world. For the uninitiated, the Swedish brand’s unique design sees the base gradually turn up at the edges the closer you get to the nose and tail. This reduces edge catches while retaining the best qualities of traditional camber.

The Bataleon Camel Toe made quite an impact upon its release last year for two reasons: that name, and the fact that it plugged an affordable-powder-board shaped hole in the market. The TBT profile on this one is exaggerated for powder, giving the nose so much float that opting for a shorter length than normal is an option (recommended, in fact). The crescent tail and setback stance make short, snappy turns a breeze even in the deepest snow, but that also means you won’t be popping massive ollies. Still, it’s a camber board so can handle piste as well as pow. Also available this year is the Bill Stewart edition of the Bataleon Camel Toe, which was made in collaboration with the legendary surf shaper and is available for an extra thirty sheets.

The Review

“I had the perfect conditions to ride this in, and it was wicked fun. The TBT profile has loads of bevel and you can feel it rolling from edge to edge, almost as if it’s surfing through the pow. It’s not that versatile; you’re pretty set back, and it’s clear that it just wants to be either pointed down the fall-line or laid out in massive turns. It’s a bargain for a powder board though – the core profile and extruded base may not be the most tech, but it really does the job in the conditions it’s made for.” – Ed Blomfield
