New real snow slope planned for Weston-Super-Mare

The latest growth figures for the UK may be giving George Osborne some pretty sleepless nights, but it’s not all doom and gloom just yet. North Somerset Council have given the go-ahead for a new ‘Leisuredome’ at Weston-Super-Mare, which will include the biggest real snow slope the country has seen to date.

Concept art for the Leisuredome project. Surely 'Leisure-backwards-L' would have been more appropriate?

The £50 million project has one more beurocratic hurdle to jump before work on the 210m slope (as well as 40m climing wall, skate park and even indoor surfing and sky-diving facilities!) can begin. If all goes to plan, the doors are scheduled to open in 2013.

The facility will apparently create more than 573 direct and 256 indirect jobs in an area that has had its fair share of long term unemployment. There ya go George, things will be back on track before you know it: just build a snowdome in every city!
