UPDATE: PowdAir has run into “potentially disastrous” financial difficulties, as a result of a major investor walking away just days before the first flights were due to run on 11th December.

According to the CFO, the business is in good shape and ticket sales are above expectations, but they need cash urgently – at least £1million by the end of this week.

If you’ve already booked to fly between the 11-17 December, PowdAir will be in touch soon to discuss your booking.

Good news for those who live in fear of long transfer drives, as airline upstart Powdair launch with a brand new snowsports-centered set of routes to and from Switzerland.

Kicking off from December 17th, offering flights straight into the scenic runway spot of Sion in the Swiss Alps – their current flight plan list includes a wide selection of UK airports, from London Luton, Edinburgh, Southampton, Bristol and more (see below for the full selection).

Flights are going 6 days a week, with a rest day on Tuesdays – so it sounds like the perfect setup for long weekend missions, combining the quick customs clearance usually associated with small airports, with less time on the road getting to your destination.

We’re yet to hear whether they’ll be running with free board bag carriage, apres-bar themed decor or a servicing station with board-waxing in first class, but Powdair are quoting some tempting transfer times from Sion airport to local resorts:

Nendaz – 25 mins
Crans-Montana – 30 mins
Verbier – 45 mins
Zermatt – 1 hour
Saas-Fee – 1 hour
