Dan Wakeham halfpipe killer comes 2nd in Tignes

Wednesday 9th January 2008: As a result of Dan Wakeham’s recent achievement of qualifying into the semi finals in 3rd place and finishing in 30th position overall in the O’Neill Evolution event, he was invited to compete in the prestigious Airwaves Invitational Halfpipe Competition in Tignes, France last night and finished in an impressive 2nd place winning $5,000.

Dan fought off tough competition to take silver, including 3rd place winner, Gary Zebrowski from France, who finished 6th in the Halfpipe in the 2006 Winter Olympics, and Finnish World Cup Champ, Janne Korpi. Dan’s winning run included a frontside crippler on his first hit, to McTwist, frontside 720, cab 720 and huge air to fakie. Dan commented “There were loads of people watching and it was great to get cheers from the fellow Brits in the crowd when the MC announced I was dropping in for my run. Im just super stoked to get a podium spot pretty early on in the season as it really stands you in good stead for all of the other competitions to come. I love riding Laax’s Superpipe, so I’m really looking forward to the Burton European Open this weekend and I’ll be riding against a lot of the same guys so it’s a real confidence boost to get such a good result”.
