Bangers and Cash: new rail event to hit The Brits

The BRITS has a new home for 2013, moving from the slopes of Switzerland to those of Tignes, France for the first time in nearly a decade. With such a bold move back to the land of frog cuisine and baguettes, it’s only right that the new venue will also debut a brand new event for the newschoolers, in the form of an eagerly awaited rail event. Skullcandy will also be on hand to crank out the post-shred tunes at the Skullcandy Après Sessions and will be chucking a pair of the latest headphones to all of the British Champions.

Now we’re definitely a little biased here but it’s not an overstatement to say that the British scene has produced some of the most talented rail riders in Europe. However, until now, this often overlooked breed of rider has been uncatered for at the most prestigious British on-snow competition. Thankfully, this injustice is to be no more, with the introduction of the new ‘Bangers & Cash’ event. As the name implies the idea is to reward bangers, with cash (no prizes for figuring that one out). The idea is to create an event that is equal to the Championship disciplines but free from the structure and tension of other competitive formats.

Buoyed by some X-Games rivalry, the Tignes park shapers will be taking it upon themselves to outdo their US counterparts in the design and creation of the Bangers & Cash arena. Run as an open jam,
judges will focus on successive designated zones, qualifying riders through to the final and plying them with cash in the process. In fact, a whopping £1000 is up for grabs for the overall winner so it’s all to play for! To ensure everyone gets their fill, there will be no elimination process, and all riders will be able to hit the course right up until the chosen few battle it out for the top spot.

The BRITS are vying for appearances from some of the UK’s best kept secrets such as Will Smith, Ross Needham, Tom Guilmard, Ollie Dutton, Matt Higson, Gazza Andrews, Si Foster and John
Weatherly to name a few… it’s got ‘front cover’ written all over it.

As day becomes night, Skullcandy will take care of business at the Skullcandy Après Sessions as they serve up phonic delights to accompany the most satisfying of beverages, the post-shred beer. The Skullcandy Après Sessions will kick off every day from 4.30pm-6.30pm at The Couloir bar in the centre of Val Claret and on top of supplying the daily beats, Skullcandy will be presenting all Championship winners with a set of next-level headphones from their Supreme Sound Collection. The BRITS have got pairs of their recently released and celebrated Aviator, Navigator and Uprock headphones to crown both snowboarders and freeskiers.

Skullcandy will also be bringing the turntable prowess of two time MOTY (mix of the year) winner DJ Irk to The BRITS for a night of heavy hitting bass and precision scratch routines. Irk will be sharing the stage with the critically acclaimed Nextmen for a headline night that could very well go down in BRITS history.

Week-packages start from a recession-busting £279 and include seven nights’ accommodation, six day liftpass, festival wristband and an official BRITS Funi beanie. Let’s not beat around the bush – it’s gonna be an awesome week.
