Freestyle.ch – Gjermund Braaten wins in style

http://mpora.com/videos/ozOIdXsSR Gjermund Braaten, the rising Norwegian star, has taken this year’s Freestyle.Ch title with a pretty ridiculous back 12 double cork, which he stomped clean first time. Seb Toots came second, whipping out his own version of the same trick while Peetu Piiroinen’s back 10 double was enough to claim third place. Earlier the three of them had qualified through to the super-finals with Stale Sandbech, beating tech tricks from much-fancied riders like local boy Iouri Podlatchikov and Marko Grilc.

But despite all this tech wizardry winning the contest, there was still room for some of the style in the competition’s title to be showcased – the unique format of the comp requires every rider to do a ‘style’ trick as well as something tech. So even if you get bored of watching interminable double corks, these videos of the qualification and semi-final rounds are still well worth a watch.

Qualification was kindof blighted by heavy rain, but that didn’t stop people throwing down in style – check out Tim Humphreys’ sweet front five crail in this clip. He’s the one on the Flow board by the way…

The semis were blessed with a bit more sun, and there was some more serious style in evidence – Stale Sandbech’s front three stalefish here is pretty magical. He’s the one on the Rome board.
