British Army Nelson Pratt tribute video

Andrew Moore from the British Army has put together this tribute video for the late Nelson Pratt, which includes footage of Nelly doing what he did best: snowboarding and sharing his love for the shred with other people.

Nelly had a profound impact as a coach on the British Freestyle Team as well as for the British Army. In Andrew’s words, “he was very much liked by the Navy and RAF because of his amazingly kind and helpful personality, even during competition.”

Nelson was was remembered recently at both the Army and Combined-Service Championships in Austria and France respectfully and the Army will now award the best newcomer with the Nelson Pratt memorial trophy (see below). The wood sculpture will be awarded to the best new male of female snowboarder – a fitting tribute to Nelly’s legacy eh?

By the sounds of things the Army snowboard scene is really starting to step a notch with a successful competition held in Stubai this past March. Apparently the standard is starting to get rather impressive in snowboardcross with the freestyle aspect also improving every year. Check out the shot of Rob Collier below – the lad that won the slopestyle. With a steezy frontside 720 like that you’d be forgiven for thinking that he was a sponsored rider rather than a member of the armed forces!

The Army have got a comp coming up at Hemel this September called Exercise Snow Summer (everything in the Army has to have a exercise name, apparently) and we look forward to checking that one out.

And don’t forget that Nelly’s inaugural cycle event is happening on September 7th – proceeds for which go to the CALM charity. You can sign up here: http://nelsonstourdetestvalley.co.uk/
