What Happens When You Mix Rednecks and High End Technology?

CURTIS MORGAN FROM BRAIN FARM SPEAKS

Curtis Morgan, if you don’t know the name you’ll surely know his work. In fact there’s no chance you haven’t – he’s the man behind Brain Farm and the director of both That’s It That’s All and The Art Of Flight, the two most watched snowboarding movies ever.

As well as showcasing groundbreaking riding from Travis Rice, John Jackson, Jeremy Jones, Nicolas Muller and other huge freeride names in the films, they were also revolutionary in their use of the latest in cinematic technology.

They took the action sports model – film everything close up with a fisheye follow cam – and turned it on its head, using the latest in cinematic technology to tell the stories they wanted to.

But of course you know all of this already, what you might not know about just yet is the man masterminding it all from behind the lens: Curtis Morgan. Well here he is.

In this interview with Bapu Film he discusses the creative and scientific thought processes behind the iconic films, as well as future plans for Brain Farm, including a highly anticipated skate collaboration with Ty Evans, creator of Yeah Right!, Fully Flared and Pretty Sweet, some of the most treasured skate films ever shot.

If you’re interested in what goes in to making a snowboard movie – or even just cinematography in general – this is one to watch. Don’t be put off by its length, it’s full of some great insights into film music, camera tech and film knowledge, as well as a collection of stunning imagery from the Brain Farm back catalogue.
