Snowboarding At The Houses Of Parliament

Snow-less Westminster shred to highlight climate change

The crew behind the Jibworx EnviroJam were back at it over the weekend, setting up a rail jam in the shadow of Westminster as part of the People’s Climate March.

On Saturday, around 50,000 people descended upon London in a demonstration coinciding with the COP21 climate summit in Paris. It was an opportunity too good to miss, and before long a setup was in place.

The ramp may have been made from dry slope matting, and the snowmen may have been plastic, but the sight of people snowboarding without snow was an appropriate one for the occasion. The plight of ski resorts might not be at the top of world leaders’ priority lists in Paris, but highlighting how it effects those who enjoy the white stuff is worth doing nonetheless.

Throwing down on the corrugated pipe were Ed Castle-Henry, Baden Knifton, Arsland Slanner, Max Whittrick, Alistair Nasmyth and 10-year-old Max Jorge, who whipped the crowd into shape before dropping. The crew were, as far as we know, the first snowboarders to shred at the Parliament building.

Fair play to the Jibworx guys for getting this done – stay tuned for details of the next EnviroJam, as well as similar events they’re lining up as we speak.
