Freeze has evolved

The London Freeze Festival has become somewhat of a staple in the British snowboarding calendar, inviting some of the world's best riders and music acts to the capital for one mighty big celebration in honour of the start of the winter season.

In previous years, the festival has of course been held against the dramatic backdrop of Battersea power station, producing shots that have, over the years, become synonymous with British snowboarding.

However, in July of last year, the site of the iconic quad towers on the south bank of the Thames was sadly sold to SP Setia (Malaysia’s leading property developer) and is now due to be redeveloped into homes and shops. It was good news for the area (we guess), but decidedly bad news for our beloved Freeze festival.

This obviously left organisers in a bit of a pickle - with such an iconic part of the festival no longer a possibility, could they find a new venue to house the UK's biggest winter sports festival?

Speculation was wild and the rumour mill was in full tilt but it has finally been revealed that Clapham Common will host this year's festival, which will run over 5 days from 27th Nov – 1st Dec.

But that's not the end of the news. In what will be a sad announcement for many, the big air of previous festivals will be no more and an international rail jam will instead take centre stage on Sunday 1st with invitational spots for some of the world's best jibbers. As always, there will also be a showcase of the UK's brightest rail talent in the form of the now staple 'Battle of Britain' competition.

Also on site visitors will also find live music, 5 themed Après Ski Bars (Dick's Tea Bar, Bavarian Haus, Metro Lodge, La Folie Douce and Krazy Kangaroo), mountainside eateries, an alpine shopping village, a cinema playing snowboard and ski movies and a full fun fair.

It does sound like a lot of fun but we must admit that we're a little gutted that Billy Morgan won't be able to defend his title on the Freeze kicker infront of a home crowd...
