Food on the mountain is expensive and pretty average, with the usual choice of baguettes. If you’re at Brévent or Flégère it’s easy enough to head down the hill for lunch. Just across the road from La Flégère lift station, the Rhodendrome hotel does a reasonably priced pizza and is where the locals hang out after riding. In Chamonix itself, Papillon is my favorite lunch spot with healthy takeaway salads, soups and curries. Another good spot is the Japanese Satsuki, which does a reasonably priced lunch menu.
Head to Munchies if you’re feeling flush and want an amazing steak, but make sure you book as they get pretty full during the winter. Swedish head chef Stefan has been cooking in Chamonix for over twenty years, and you’ll spot him and fellow chef Kalle up the Aiguille getting gnarly on their days off. For a good pizza go to Casa Valerio, while the MBC offers locally brewed ale, live bands and good burgers. The famous Belouga sandwich bar dishes up plenty of cheese and fried goodness for a post-drinking snack after a night out.
