Triple backflip eludes Jake Koia in Whistler

http://mpora.com/videos/GfxZDq2i5 While Seb Toots was bringing the membership of the triple cork club up to 4, Kiwi ripper Jake Koia aimed for what is now something far more exclusive: the straight-up triple backflip. OK, he may not have stuck it, but how close does he get?! Our favourite’s got to be the triple backflip to inadvertent frontflip.

The triple flip is one area where the Brits are actually leading the charge: Tyler Chorlton stomped a triple frontflip a couple of years ago, while Billy Morgan came agonisingly close to the triple back in Whitelinesentry for the Jib Vid 2010 (although that one was more of a triple barrel roll).

The triple backflip has been stomped this season though, by Kevin Jones of all people! Back on his board and riding with the likes of Xavier De Le Rue and Johan Olofsson, the original snowboarding superstar is showing that old dogs can indeed learn new tricks. The footage is still to come, but you can see a sequence of it here.

The vid come courstesy of Givin, a new filming collective who aim “to create snowboard movies for snowboarders”. The brainchild of rail supremo Keegan Valaika, the crew boasts a ridiculous roster of associated riders: Nicolas Müller, Mikkel Bang, Luke Mitrani, Mason Aguirre and Kazuhiro Kokubo are just some of the pros who are getting involved. Givin’s first full-length movie, One, will be out in the autumn.
