Top Women Riders Storm the Nine Queens Castle

NINE QUEENS SNOWBOARD EDIT

The Nine Queens/Knights format has been one of our favourites this year, the essential concept being that the Livigno park team build a gigantic castle out of snow with an insane amount of jump/transfer options and let the invited riders go to town on it for a week.

Until this year it’s been a ski only event but enough jealous snowboarders (probably) kicked up a fuss that this year they allowed women riders to have their own event alongside the skier ladies. Possibly the only time women have beaten the men to the punch in snowboard history.

You will of course remember that Jenny Jones grabbed a bronze in this event when it took place last month, but now the good people at Suzuki have put together a snowboard only edit from the proceedings.

It’s amazing seeing women’s riding actually pushed forward like this, like in Sochi the features were challenging enough that instead of cruising through with monotonous safety tricks the contest saw just what ladies’ freestyle can achieve, especially with the open, week long competition format.

Here’s us hoping that the organisers finally see the light and let a full squad of snowboarders take on the men’s course next year, if they did it could just become one of the biggest contests on the circuit…
