Takafumi Konishi in BC

One of the first Japanese riders to start making regular appearances in Canada, Takafumi Konishi has been bringing his floaty Japanese style to the rugged crags of British Columbia for years now.

There are snowboarding legends all around the globe: Terry Kidwell, Tom Sims and Jamie Lynn in the States, Tere Haakonsen from Norway, Regis Rolland from France… We won’t even begin getting into the British names here for fear of another great internet debate.

Though there is little crossover, they have legends in Japan too. Kazu, Ayumu… Ones so great that they have crossed over with Madonna-like single names. Due to cultural and language barriers we don’t get to know all of them – but Takafumi Konishi is most definitely one.

One of the first Japanese riders to start making regular appearances in Canada, he’s been bringing his floaty Japanese style to the rugged crags of British Columbia for years now. Last season Heart Films spent some time with him capturing footage for his sponsors Columbia.

It makes for dreamy viewing, lines so long and smooth he could have been drawing them at breakfast with a butter knife, as well as some seriously styled out airs: the back five at 2.30 is the stuff off dreams!

Get it down your eyes holes, and after you’ve watched this Japanese rider in Canada make sure you check out these Canadian riders in Japan!
