GoPro launch awesome new sharing app

POV cam fans/geeks the world over were collectively stoked yesterday when GoPro released a significant update to their already pretty handy iPhone and Android app.

The original app allowed you to control your wifi-enabled GoPro (i.e. GoPro 3 or GoPro 2 + wifi bacpac) with your phone, change it’s settings and even use it as a viewfinder.

The new app brings with it one major update that the old one was lacking – the ability to view, playback and delete the videos and photos that you’ve just shot, right on your phone. Perhaps even more significantly, you can now transfer your footage magically over the air onto your phone (in a variety of different resolutions/qualities) and share it straight to Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or other social media hub of your choice.

Like all official GoPro promo vids, the one for the new app is pretty easy on the eyes too:

(You got us with those kids at the end GoPro…)

For the new app to work you’ll need to update both your GoPro app and the software on your camera. It’s all rather straight forward and GoPro make the steps pretty clear right here.

Once you’ve got everything setup, check out the video below for a walkthrough of the new features:

The biggest and most practical benefit of the new app has got to be the ability to playback a file and delete it from your memory card, straight away, in the field. Had too many Tequilas last night and couldn’t keep your hands still while shooting follow-cam? Apologise and be rid of the footy. Didn’t quite get the angle you wanted on your helmet cam? Delete that 2-point-something GB file.

No more waiting until you get back to the chalet to find that all of the footage you’ve shot is totally unusable because some plonker kept turning the damn thing off instead of on…

Has anyone else tested the app yet? We tried it out last night and were pleasantly surprised with how intuitive it was to use and useful it’ll actually be. Will social media be swarming with GoPro pow faceshots and the like come winter? Are there any other features that GoPro could add in a subsequent app?
