Snowboard Deck Top Picks: March 2011

Published in Whitelines Magazine Issue 96, March 2011

Apo Snowboard

APO

SELEKTA – £325

SIZES: 145, 149, 153, 155, 157

APO-SNOW.COM

Apo’s Selekta is one of their bestselling boards. It’s long been a favourite of the kind of French rude boy whose baggy pants leave him almost no leg beneath the knee. Perfect for buttering through the park and spinning on and off rails, this twin tip now benefits from reverse camber tech making it even better for freestyle. Nice graf inspired graphic keeps you looking the part too, and thankfully, despite the Bo Selekta name, Craig David is nowhere to be seen.

DC Snowboard

DC

MLF – £310

SIZES: 150, 158

DCSHOES.COM

MLF stands for Mountain Lab Freestyle. Which means this board was the result of a long and arduous testing process that saw the guys from DC take the board up to their super-secret Utah “MTN LAB”, ride it a lot in their private park, and probably sink a few cold beers. The bastards. Still, whatever the process, you can’t fault them on the end product– this is soft, supple, and with its blunt nose and tail, it’s one of the sickest park boards around.

Ride Snowboard

RIDE

HIGHLIFE – £430

SIZES: 155, 158, 161, 164, 167 – 159W, 163W, 168W, 172

WRIDESNOWBOARDS.COM

Ride have been pushing this relatively stiff freeride-style board hard this season. It’s got their new Low-Pro rocker tech in it, making it sick in pow. Which is why they gave it to their brand new signing Jake Blauvelt. He’s the ridiculously talented mellow dude we interviewed in our January issue, who in the space of a few short years has found himself anointed heir-apparent to Nicolas Muller’s backcountry freestyle crown. He’s also the dude who put out possibly the coolest part in this year’s Absinthe movie – set to the sounds of Collie Buddz. You can tell we love him a little bit can’t you?

Lib Tech Snowboard

LIB TECH

JAMIE LYNN – £470

SIZES: 152, 154, 157, 160 – 157

WLIB-TECH.COM

How do you write an introduction to the legend that is Jamie Lynn? Rider, skater, artist, musician, the man with possibly the best method of all time and generally the epitome of style, both on and off the hill. While Jamie has retreated from the snowboarding limelight somewhat, his shadow still looms large enough over the sport for Lib Tech to give him a pro-model. This solid flexing, all-terrain, rocker camber combo board is it. And it’s rad. The graphic alone is enough to make me want one.
