Rome Gang Plank 2015-2016 Snowboard Review

Shred the plank

UPDATE: Check out our review of the 2018/2019 Rome Gang Plank here

The Details:

‘Plank’ is usually used to describe a heavy, unresponsive board (see also: ‘door’). However, that’s certainly not what you get this one, which is a light, nimble thing designed for freestyle but capable of a lot more.

The Rome Gang Plank is mostly flat-based, bending up towards the nose and tail either side of the bindings, meaning you get more stability than your common-or-garden rocker but still plenty of freedom to loosen up and get spontaneous. Take it into the powder you’ll find it easy to keep afloat, even though it’s a true twin.

While you don’t get the normal contact points that you get with camber, Rome have worked around that by using two different sidecuts on each edge – one in the middle, and another with the same radius at the nose and tail sections. When you’re carving hard, the points where the sidecuts meet will act as an extra contact point, holding your line. At slower speeds or while buttering, they won’t get in the way of your fun.

The sintered base is quick without being so tech that you need to spend more of your money (and more of your time on upkeep). Taller riders may want something a bit longer than 158cm, but for everyone else this is well worth a look.

TESTER’S VERDICT:
Chris Sturgess – snowfit.co.uk

“Put any good freestyle rider on this board and you will see what this board can really do. Sadly it was me riding it, so I can’t tell you how great it is on boxes or how effortlessly it spins.

But I can tell you how well it carves, and how smooth and fast it is. In the right hands this board would be hard to beat and it outperforms plenty of others that cost more.

I love the fact the black top layer of the graphic is printed on top of the multi-coloured top sheet; as you board picks up the inevitable scuffs and scratches, more of the colors come through. So like your favorite jeans, it will look better with age.”
