Ride Buckwild 2015-2016 Snowboard Review

Just huck it

The Details:

There’s no sign of the Buck Up this year, but the Ride Buckwild is once again present and correct. Perennially popular and always colourful, it’s pretty hard to miss.

The ‘Twin Rocker’ profile is actually almost entirely flat, only rising up toward the tips at either side of the bindings. This makes it suitable for all kinds of riding, from rails to kickers, and isn’t difficult to handle in powder.

It won’t give you the same pop that camber boards do, but the addition of carbon rods at the nose and tail help to offset this without weighing you down.

Given the flex rating, Ride recommend this for mid-level freestyle as opposed to balls-out XL stuff. However, it proved to be just the job for Billy Morgan as he stepped up from promising Brit to international star, so it’ll send you as high and far as you dare.

The super-fast sintered base will carry you past any knuckle, while the urethane in both the sidewalls and the core help to dampen big landings and impacts.

If you’re the kind of rider that likes to get noticed in the park, the Ride Buckwild’s vital statistics – and topsheet – should send it towards the top of your wishlist.

TESTER’S VERDICT:
Barry Parkerrealsnowboarding.co.uk

“Compared to what I expected this freestyle-specific board to be like, I was surprised how stiff it felt underfoot. It’s really stable as a result and has great edge hold, which is useful for when you’re running into a kicker – and obviously it can even handle quad corks!

Due to the touch of rocker on the nose and tail you can get a little playful with it on rails and on flats, but the stiffness got in the way of full-on fun.

On piste it was a charger; maybe a little slow edge to edge, but it held a carve (even a Euro) very well.”
