K2 Fastplant 2015-2016 Snowboard Review

Quick growth

UPDATE: Check out our review of the 2017/2018 K2 Fastplant here

The Details:

K2’s long-serving freestyle board has won several awards over the years, and garnered much favour with the masses. Naturally, it’s back for another year in much of the same specs – so if you’ve enjoyed the K2 Fastplant in the past, you’ll no doubt like this one too.

It’s a flat-based true twin with a subtle upward bend on either side of the inserts, making it ideal for park riding of all kinds, and the ‘Tweekend’ nose and tail offer larger areas to press with, whether on the piste or on a feature. They also help out in deeper snow, so you don’t necessarily have to swap this out for another board when it dumps.

The Fastplant has a sintered base, but not one that’s too fragile to let loose with; it’s more substantial than K2’s higher-end bases, while still offering great speed. Then when you get to the lip, the built-in ollie bar (a cambered insert made of carbon, Kevlar and urethane) between the feet will give you that extra bit of pop.

It’s not the cheapest board out there, but its all-round credentials mean that it’s a world away from the disposable freestyle sticks you often see these days.

A modern classic with a solid reputation, the only risks you take with the K2 Fastplant are the ones you seek out yourself.

TESTER’S VERDICT:
Ed Blomfield – Whitelines

“Bucking the trend for weird shapes, this is a classic go-anywhere, do-anything twin tip. I won’t say old-fashioned though, because there’s plenty of (expensive) modern tech in here including carbon at the nose and tail and an ollie bar, which make the K2 Fastplant super light and snappy.

The flat profile feels really stable in a straight line – there’s no twitching even at high speed – while the gently extended nose and tail make it a joy to butter on. You need to be a powerful rider to make the most of its relatively stiff flex but seasonaires especially will appreciate the solid platform that this all-terrain board provides.

If you’re the kind of guy who rides powder on the first day after a snowfall, then builds a kicker on day two and hits the park on day three, then this is for you.”
