Jones Mountain Twin 2015-2016 Snowboard Review

Double dipper

UPDATE: Check out our review of the 2018/2019 Jones Mountain Twin here

The Details:

These days Jeremy Jones isn’t synonymous with freestyle (unless you’re thinking of the other guy), but even while he’s been crafting new powder weapons like the Storm Chaser, he’s not forgotten about the trickologists. The Jones Mountain Twin takes all of his board-building expertise and applies it to something you can take to the park.

While you could technically get on with any park features with this, the directional shape and its relative stiffness and weight make it better suited for the pipe than the double-kinks.

While there’s just enough rocker in the nose and tail to help your presses, your first instinct will be to get this airborne. Thanks to the mostly-camber profile and new core construction that features pop-boosting beech, that won’t be difficult.

It’s also built to charge, with a super-fast sintered base and mellow Magne-Traction edges that can hold a high-speed carve for as long as you like.

Take it off-piste and those rocker sections help keep you buoyant, so you can concentrate on scoping the slope for natural hits.If this interests you then also check out the Ultra Mountain Twin, a higher-tech (and higher-priced) version that’s new for 2015/16.

TESTER’S VERDICT:
James Stentifordstentifordsnowboarding.co.uk

“99 % of the Jones range seems to be aimed at the middle-aged freeride shredder, but this beast feels like a board Travis Rice or Nicholas Müller would take to Alaska to use for everything from straight lines to natural booters.

This is by far the most playful board in the Jones range; the camber between your feet makes it super responsive and quick from edge to edge, and the slight rocker at the nose and tail makes it buttery in the park.

This could be the perfect seasonaire’s board to handle big powder days as well as late-season sunny park days.”
