CAPiTA Charlie Slasher 2015-2016 Snowboard Review

Divide your ride

The Details:

Splitboards, they say, are like porn films – why buy one when you can make one yourself? The perennially popular CAPiTA Charlie Slasher has a strip of sidewall material running from nose to tail, giving you the option to chop it in half should the touring bug bite hard.

Of course, even if you keep it together it’s a great board for freeriding. The directional shape and long flat section of base prove stability, while the rocker section towards the nose brings the float. A slight taper on the tail makes it even easier to ride the deep stuff, but isn’t so pronounced that you can’t take off or land switch.

The nose is strengthened with two rods of carbon fibre that run down past the front binding, so it’ll stay stable without becoming too rigid to pop effectively. Combine that with the sintered base and you’ve got something that will charge hard, tackle crud and spring nicely off side-hits.

Even before you factor in the option to split it, it’s clear that the CAPiTA Charlie Slasher is no ordinary powder board.

TESTER’S VERDICT:
Adam Hoskinsblisssnowboards.co.uk

“There is something about CAPiTA boards that just makes them more fun than most of the competition.

I think the Flat Kick tips have a lot to do it. They seem to add to the boards snap, and encourage you to look out for every natural lump, bump, cut-out and side hit that the mountain has to offer.

The Charlie Slasher is probably my favourite board to ride in powder; it’s almost impossible to sink the nose, and power turns are effortless. It rides really well on piste too, so it doesn’t have to be a rarely-used, powder-only weapon.

Riding soft snow is always fun, but if you’ve never used a powder-specific board like this to do so then you haven’t experienced just how good it can be.”
