Rome 390 2015-2016 Snowboard Binding Review

UPDATE: Check out our review of the 2017/2018 Rome 390 Boss here

The Details:

A modern classic, the Rome 390 binding has been a popular model for years. As an all-rounder it can be all things to all men, and therefore will suit anyone who likes to keep their options open on the mountain.

As with all Romes, the emphasis is on toe-to-heel response combined with a little side-to-side freedom. the aluminium part of the chassis has been designed to offer both, and edge-to-edge performance is further enhanced by the ‘V-Rod’ baseplate.

Put simply, only a narrow channel of baseplate that runs directly under the mounting disc actually makes constant contact with the board, while the rest of it is slightly raised.

This means you’ll get lightning-fast edge changes but a bit of a looser feel when you’re shifting your weight up and down the board. This has benefits not only for your overall riding, but also those times when you want to really bone out your grabs.

The ankle strap has been upgraded with a 3D-moulded design, and combined with the asymmetrical highbacks offers a comfortable yet secure ride at all times.

Great for any conditions, but if you’re after a slightly stiffer model there’s also the 390 Boss.

TESTER’S VERDICT:
Chris Strurgesssnowfit.co.uk

“This binding never seems to change very much, but then why mess with a winning formula?

By using a metal heel loop on a plastic chassis you get the flex and comfort of, say, a Burton binding, but the power and response of a Ride one. There is so much adjustment on these too; if anything maybe too much!

But if you like tweaking your set-up so it’s just right, for the money these bindings are untouchable.”

“By using a metal heel loop on a plastic chassis you get flex and comfort as well as power and response”
