Mikkel Bang

You’d struggle to find a rider, judge, industry worker or liftie that wouldn’t rate Mikkel Bang among the most stylish riders of his generation. Given his lofty height, that’s no mean feat – but this Norseman started early and has given it his all ever since.

He, Luke Mitrani and Frederick Austbo blew everyone out the park in 2003 with a  shared segment in Standard Films’ White Balance. Mikkel quickly progressed to the big leagues in 2006, taking the rug out from beneath the establishment’s feet with podium finishes at the Air & Style and Burton New Zealand Open, plus a top ten finish at the Burton European Open.

Mikkel began to take a step back from the competitive scene in the 2011 season, focusing on his backcountry prowess with riders like Danny Davis and Jussi Oksanen. He’s an outspoken critic of spin-to-win, going as far as to shun airbag sessions as a means to learn new tricks. In today’s world of pre-rehearsed slopestyle runs, it’s refreshing to note that Mikkel won the Burton US Open in 2010 with something he put down on the fly. Maybe he’s the one doing it right?
