Competition ripper turned backcountry Messiah: Hana Beaman has been leading the charge for female snowboarding before most of us could reach the biscuit tin. She first started competing in 2002, blasting onto the Slopestyle scene with wins at the Burton US Open, Burton NZ Open and XGames Aspen across her career.
She started to switch her focus towards backcountry after a chance meeting with Travis Rice, not long after she bought her first snowmobile and started cruising with TRice around Jacksons Hole. As mentors go, TRIce is probably a damn good one to have, which reflects in Hana’s riding to this day.
Whitelines went on a shoot with Ms Beaman herself a few years back with Jenny Jones and Seb Kern. We were amazed by her knowledge of the terrain and her ability to read the terrain as she carved her line down the peaks.
Over the last two seasons Hana has been working with fellow backcountry powerhouses Robin van Gyn, Leanne Pelosi, Erin Comstock, Annie Boulanger and Megan Ginter on the ‘p.s…’ webisodes documenting their travels through exotic and snowy lands. The inspiration for this came from Hana’s appearances in the now deceased Misschief Films productions: one of the first all girl movies in snowboarding.
At the start of the 2012/2013 season, the girls came together to release the film
‘ I N T E R V A L S’ hashing all of their ‘P.S’ webisdoes together to make a 15 minute thriller of backcountry prowess. Look out for Hana in the Ride Snowboards project ‘For The Love of Snowboarding’.
