Will the 2022 Winter Olympics be rescheduled?

If you read the news last week that The 2022 Winter Olympics will be held in either China or Kasakhstan, then you may be interested to hear about the latest twist in the tale.

As we all know – although we still find it hard to believe – the 2022 World Cup will be held in Qatar. Given how blisteringly hot it tends to get there in the summer, a plan is in place to have it in the winter instead. Up til now Fifa chief-a, International Olympic Committee member and moral vacuum Sepp Blatter has advocated moving the tournament to November and December, but he’s met opposition from the body that represents European football clubs.

Due the disruption the new dates would cause to the Euro leagues, they’ve instead proposed it is held in January and February, when a lot of the leagues are on a winter break anyway. The 2022 Winter Olympics would then have to be shifted to avoid a clash.

The problem Fifa has is that football may lose its own Olympic sport status if it has been seen to create a headache for the IOC – hence why they went for the end-of-year plan in the first place. However, it looks like the footballing world will have to get their own house in order to make that happen. If not, expect the headaches to continue – oh, and it’s probably safe to assume that the majority of people involved in the decision are on the take.

Anyone remember when our Olympic stories were about the snowboarding? Them were the days.
