Japanese ripper Kazuhiro Kokubo and Aussie Lady Torah Bright took the titles at the second halfpipe competition in the LG Snowboard FIS World Cup yesterday in Saas-Fee, Switzerland. Kokubos’ clean first run was unmatched by any of the other riders and his jumps gave him the edge – “I didn’t expect to win here against the strong international riders, but it’s a great feeling- and an honour definitely,” he said after the result. Taking second place was Frenchman Mathieu Crèpel, who was pleased with his efforts on the day after coming back from injuries. Mathieu is definitely one to watch this season…check him playing catch up and learning double-corks in Les Deux Alpes here.
Leading the ladies was freestyle supremo Torah Bright. This girl can do no wrong at the moment and her impressive run featured some pretty technical elements such as her cap 720, which was enough to beat down Chinese rider Xuetong Cai into second place.
