The Alps Are About To Get Dumped On!

First major snow of the European season due this weekend

Start getting excited… Whilst Northern America has been getting hammered with early season snow over the last week, for the most part the Alps have remained dry and relatively warm. Not for much longer though, according to forecasting sites many European mountains are due for heavy snow fall this weekend, up to a metre in some places!

With the storm due to start on Friday afternoon, temperatures are predicted to plummet to below -10 Celcius at altitude over Saturday and Sunday during the heaviest part of the storm, with blue skies expected on Tuesday for anyone close enough to open resorts or somewhere to hike.

Hopefully temperatures will stay low and this’ll be the start of a good winter – whilst last year’s warm temperatures and low snow depths were blamed on a much wetter than average summer, this year saw much more typical seasons. PLus, we’re meant to catch a healthy dose of the El Niño system currently hammering the States.

We’ve compiled a few long range forecasts from snow-forecast.com – let us know if you’re going to be able to get some early season turns in soon!
