Torgeir Bergrem Set to Replace Torstein Horgmo at Sochi 2014

YET ANOTHER TRIPLE-FLIPPING NORWEGIAN?

The news that Torstein Horgmo won’t make it to the Sochi 2014 slopestyle finals this weekend saddened the world of snowboarding. His style, positivity and attitude would have made the Olympic spectacle easier to digest to the dedicated riders watching.

However, this is the Olympics and what are they without national teams? When the Norwegian Team was announced last month Torgeir Bergrem was named as their alternate, so it would seem likely that he will be taking to the course on Thursday morning with the rest of the qualifying athletes.

Not only was he the first to land a backside triple cork 1620, the trick that won Max Parrot X Games Big Air gold in Aspen this year, the Nitro rider also features in many of the RK1 edits, so get re-watching to familiarise yourself with him. Oh, and he also once nollie frontflipped of a hundred foot cliff in just his pants, into a glacier pool.

It’s astonishing that someone with the obvious jumping talent seen above, could only come in at fifth place nationally, and shows just how deep and stacked the Norwegian team will be coming into the men’s finals on Saturday. Here’s us hoping for a show, good luck Torgeir!
