First Contest of The 2014/15 Season – The Mile High

And so it begins – the 2014/15 contest season is now officially under way with the first major blow out: The Mile High in Perisher, Australia.

Perisher’s park rep has really improved over the last few years with contests like Stylewars and The Mile High pushing their park shaper’s abilities and creativity to the limit. If nothing else then the list of shred celebs that turned up for this contest should persuade you to this: Jamie Anderson, Jenny Jones, Seb Toots, Max Parrot, Torstein Horgmo, Chas GuldemondChristy Prior, Stale Sandbech and Craig McMorris – to name but a few from a stacked start list.

At last year’s event Billy Morgan grabbed two podiums to kick start his Olympic year – unfortunately though he was only able to place 51st this time round in the slopestyle. His compatriots Aimee Fuller and Katie Ormerod fared a little better, managing to come in ninth and seventh respectively in the women’s event.

Seb Toots took home men’s gold with this solid run, including a boardslide to underflip and a dope front 720 off the butterbox

Whilst bad vis had held the contest off to the last minute – forcing qualifiers and finals to take place back-to-back – it was the Northern Americans that took home the golds this year. Jamie Anderson was crowned women’s champion whilst Seb Toots took home men’s gold with this solid run, including a boardslide to underflip and a dope front 720 off the butterbox:

Afterwards the best trick took place, Maxence Parrot taking the win with this jaw dropping double back rodeo 1260 -basically a lobster flip without the extra tweak. Spin wizzly!

Stellar stuff from the first podiums of the season – looks like it’ll be a good one!
