Shaun White has a band! And they’ve just been signed…

So we just found out that Shaun White has a band! They’re called Bad Things (pretty rock ‘n’ roll name is you ask us) and get this – they’ve just been signed. To Warner Brothers records no less.

A casual bit of Air Guignar

So what about the million dollar question – are they any good? What’s their first song like? Well, you can judge for yourself.

It’s not actually terrible eh? I mean aside from the fact that they sound like a marginally more boring version of Coldplay. Shaun’s contribution is apparently as lead guitarist, so no, that’s not him singing. But we do have to ask, would they’ve been signed without the pipe superstar (with his massively marketable image and two million Facebook fans) in the line-up? Hmm…

Still you’ve got to hand it to him, it’s a hell of a lot better than Travis Kennedy’s and his bid to launch a career with his questionable rap. Or Mark Frank Montoya’s non-musical post-snowboarding career venture for that matter… And while that move was seemingly out of the blue, at least Shaun’s been laying the groundwork for a while with his rockstar pants.

As to why Shaun White’s decided to embark on an alternative career now, we’re unsure. Perhaps Mark McMorris psyched him out so much at the X Games with their slopestyle beef that he’s having a early mid-life crisis? Maybe he’s thinking at least if he can’t dominate slopestyle he could soon be dominating the US charts. (Take that Mark!)

To be fair to the man, you can never write him off. Given the way he’s doggedly pursued his skateboarding and won pretty much every vert medal going in the process, you’d be a fool to underestimate his determination to succeed. But on the current evidence we are hoping (for his sake mostly, as well as the sake of our ears) that he won’t give up the day job any time soon. Boot-grabs or no boot-grabs, he still kills it like no-one else in the pipe.
