Altitute comedy festival returns to Mayrhofen in 2012

The Altitude Comedy Festival is back in Mayrhofen for a second year, with a stellar line-up booked to appear at the Austrian resort.

The week-long festival is the brainchild of comedians Andrew Maxwell and Marcus Brigstocke who, while looking for a break from the Edinburgh festival, headed to Hillend dry slope to give snowboarding a shot. Says Maxwell, “I don’t know if you’ve ever tried to snowboard on a dry ski slope, but if you have you’ll know it’s like being buggered by a yard brush”.

Regardless, they’d got the bug, and soon grew the idea of combining snowsports and comedy into the festival’s current incarnation. This year the headliners include God-botherer-bothering minstrel Tim Minchin, love-him-or-hate-him Jimmy Carr, one-line king Milton Jones and Glaswegian wunderkid Kevin BridgesMichael Winslow (aka Police Academy’s Jones) was the talk of last year’s Ediburgh festival, so expect his sound-effects-based show to be a big hit, and don’t be surprised if you get insulted by Frankie Boyle or sucked into the show by Abandoman. Take a look at the full line-up for all the names who’ll be appearing.
