Issue 89 – February 2010

We’re right in the middle of the season, and many people’s eyes, ears and minds will be turning towards the snow – if their cravings haven’t taken them there already! This latest issue is packed with spectacular features, regulars and other stuff to feed your need, whether you’ve just come back from the slopes, you’re looking forward to your next fix, or you’re out there full-time. Oh, and it’s got a sick full-length feature film attached to the front cover. Here’s a little look at all the goodness contained within our February issue.

Relentless Lives of the Artists DVD
Sitting on the front cover of this month’s magazine is a seriously epic full-length feature film, sponsored by the energy drink makers Relentless. This big budget documentary is one of the best-looking films we’ve seen all year, and the makers have obviously put a lot of effort into the beautiful camera work and impressive editing. The movie follows the fortunes of two surfers, a band, and, most importantly, big mountain rider Xavier de le Rue over the course of a season. Well wroth a watch.

Danny Davis Interview
Danny Davis comes across as an easy going hippy type, but don’t let this laid-back demeanour fool you. This kid is one of the best halfpipe riders in the world right now, and a major player on Burton’s global team. We caught up with him to discuss the double corks, his Olympic bid and the Grateful Dead.

A snowboarder’s guide to the Olympic Circus
Question: What comes around every four years and elbows its way to the top of the snowboard contest circuit like a French snowblader in a lift-queue? Answer: We don’t really need to tell you that do we…? The world’s biggest halfpipe riders on the world’s biggest stage – it can only be the Olympics. Our extensive guide will tell you everything you need to know about the who, the what and the where of snowboarding at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games.

Off the Rails in Quebec
A crew of the UK’s finest jibbers headed out to the urban meccas of Montreal and Quebec City to ride some of the world’s most famous rails for themselves, and bring us the lowdown on red ledges, backside lipslides and local delicacies.

Persian Powder: Dropping Bombs in Iran
A few years back, Whitelines was one of the first Western snowboard crews to travel to Iran. We were stoked to find a land of friendly folk, amazing architecture and epic mountains – a far cry from the portrait painted in the Western media. Five years on, French photographer Eric Bergeri headed back to the place to shoot with Sylvain Bourbousson, Marius Otterstad and Aymeric Tonin, and see if the legends of Persian pow were true.
