Issue 88 – January 2010

Yes, it’s the new year (well, almost!) and the new issue of Whitelines has hit the shelves of shops around the country. Issue 88 features all your favourite regulars alongside some particularly sick articles to help you see in the new decade in style. Here’s what you’ll find in this month’s mag

White Spirit – Chasing Dreams in Japan
Four UK riders headed out to the orient in search of the Japanese dream. Find out how they handled cat-boarding, capsule hotels and having to eat fish testicles as they searched for the ultimate pillow lines and tree runs in the Land of the Rising Sun .

Golden Girl – The Jenny Jones Interview
Jenny Jones is the most successful snowboarder this country has ever produced, but at the same time, she’s still totally down to earth and strongly rooted in her hometown of Bristol. We caught up with her to talk about winning X-Games Golds, earning $30,000 in a weekend and the whether she prefers marmite or marmalade.

Almost Famous – A Gabe L’Heureux Portfolio
Gabe L’Heureux spent last season filming for this year’s Burton movie – The B. At the same time, he took photographs – mostly for himself, but also just for the record. When he collected them all at the end of the season, he realised he had a portfolio of riders in their off moments, and behind-the-scenes shots, painting an intimate picture of the superstars in the film. Luckily, he decided to share these shots with us.

Ants in the Cathedral – A collection of awesome freeride photography
The feeling of getting out among it all is surely one of the things that makes our sport great. This collection of freeriding pics shows this side of snowboarding at its best. Plus, there’s a chance to win yourself a brand new powder stick with our “Draw the Line” competition.

Plus
• We bring you the lowdown on the Burton Scrap Metal and the Horsefeathers Pleasure Jam
• David Benedek interviews Terje Haakonsen himself
• Devun Walsh tells you how to pick the best lines
• Gigi Ruf shows you how to spin off cliffs
• The best bits of Verbier explained

And as if that’s not enough, there’s a rather fine Whitelines sticker mounted on the cover, that’ll bring an instant aura of cool to whatever you stick it on. So what are you waiting for, head on down to the shops before they shut for Christmas – after all, you’ll need some decent reading material to alleviate the Boxing Day boredom…
